Goodbye to 2016, hello 2017

2016 had a bad reputation, but it was a year of growth and change for the Plympton Hub. A summary of last year: we ran sessions on First Aid and How to Talk to Your Kids About Drugs and Alcohol. We hosted some craft events in the holidays, and a Miscarriage Support Group met up every first Tuesday of the month. We have free counselling sessions every Thursday. In October Charlotte and I took up our post and have continued to oversee sessions including the Transition to Secondary School, Understanding Self-Harm and Time for Parents, and we ended the year with our Christmas Party where we gave away our competition Christmas Hamper. 2017 has kicked off with a huge amount of new growth. So what have we got?

PTSD & Trauma Therapy with Yoga

On Tuesday 21st February, from 9:30am to 10:30am, Zoe Drake, Registered Nurse and professional Yoga teacher, will be coming in to talk about the benefits of Yoga as therapy for PTSD and other mental health issues – if you or someone you know is affected by PTSD, please come along to hear about whether Yoga can help, the principles of Yoga, and how to access classes tailored to your needs.

Family Learning

Creepy Crawly Puppets is a fun family craft session on 21st of Febuary from 11am – 1pm. Make puppets, create and learn with your youngsters.


Friday 24th February 2017 at 11:00 – Mindfulness. This is a free one-hour workshop. Mindfulness meditation is a skill that helps you get to know yourself more fully, think more clearly and stay in the present moment.

FASD Support Group

FASDDAC (FASD Devon & Cornwall) is a local support network for parents, carers and adults diagnosed with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. The next meeting will be Monday 27th Feb from 11am-1pm.

Preparing for Work

On Tuesday 28th Feb from 10:00-12:00 we are offering 5-week course on Preparing for Work. Get support on CV-writing, applications and interview tips. Childcare available.

Managing Stress

Tuesday 28th March 2017 at 16:30 – Managing Stress. This free one-hour workshop introduces the symptoms of stress, how the body responds, and simple strategies to manage this.

Sleep Well

Monday 8th May 2017 at 11:00 – Sleep Well. This free one-hour workshop will introduce ways to support restful sleep, including understanding the adult sleep cycle, what may prevent a good night’s sleep and tips for sleeping well.

Continued Sessions

Spanishtastic and Frenchtastic run on Thursdays and Fridays and Fun Phonics on Friday mornings. Home-Start S&WD continue to run Volunteer Prep Courses, and we have free counselling on Thursdays. The Miscarriage Support Group continues to meet every first Tuesday of the month.

Meeting Space

As always, the Hub is available as a cosy meeting space for a range of different purposes. Please contact us if you would like to book one of our rooms.
